NEWS: A&U acquires ‘Fancy Meeting You Here’

Allen & Unwin (A&U) has acquired ANZ rights to Fancy Meeting You Here from superstar duo Ali Berg and Michelle Kalus.

Evie is a thirty-year-old wannabe screenwriter who spends her days managing a London cinema bar, working on a podcast with her best friend Ben, and reading Hugo Hearst’s books on repeat.

NEWS: The Book Ninja Slated For The Big Screen

The Book Ninja by Ali Berg and Michelle Kalus has been optioned to be developed into a feature film by the award-winning producer Chris Brown of Pictures in Paradise (The Railway ManThe Proposition and Daybreakers) and Veronica Fury of Fury Film Co (Boar).

The great pleasure in reading one of Berg and Kalus’s books is they resonate with a crackling sense of emotional authenticity, the kind that detractors of the genre say can’t possibly inhabit it. (They’re, of course, sorely misguided and missing out on a genre of literature that warms the heart and reassures you in a cold, cruel world that love and good things are possible.)

It all started when they left their favourite book at South Yarra Station for a stranger to discover. Three years on, Books on the Rail duo Ali Berg and Michelle Kalus have written two novels, amassed thousands of followers and could soon have a movie deal.

Books on the Rail’s Melbourne co-founders get their own book deal

They are known for sharing books with Melbourne’s public transport commuters, and next year the Books on the Rail ladies will be able to leave their very own novel on the rail.
